BAKERSFILED, CALIFORNIA
Reasons to Go: Bakersfield is a town located at the southern end of the San Joaquin Valley with a strong agricultural and cultural base. No matter what you’re looking to do during your time off, there is something for everyone.
What’s Nearby: You can stroll through the quaint stores on “Antique Row” or take in the nightlife in the downtown district. Outdoor adventures are all around from biking and skiing to white water rafting. There are 3 museums that feature hands on exhibits, a children’s discovery center, and botanical gardens for all ages to enjoy. If you are looking for something a little more fast paced, then check out the Bakersfield Motor Speedway. It is credited as being one of the oldest tracks in the state and has a full schedule of stock and sprint car racing. Not far is the Kern River State Park. This is one of many great places around for boating, fishing, swimming, and hiking. All this and just about an hour and a half’s drive from the hustle and bustle of Los Angeles, makes this a perfect destination for your next assignment.
